Nevada DOT
Transportation Analyst
My name is Nick Bacon I work for NDOT’s Traffic Safety Engineering division. I’ve been with NDOT for 4 years. I started with NDOT as a Highway Construction Aide in the Roadway Systems division working on HPMS submittal and assisting in maintenance of the LRS (Linear Referencing System).
I then took a permanent position with NDOT in the GIS division. Much of my work here was conflation of NDOT’s multiple linework down to one single version, as well as assisting various other GIS projects throughout NDOT.
I then moved to Traffic Safety Engineering where I oversee the facilitation of data from the Officers in the street to the Engineers at NDOT. I currently take a non-spatial crash form submitted by the officer and apply a spatial location where that crash occurred. In addition, I maintain NDOT’s Crash Web Application, NDOT’s Crash Locator, assist in LRS maintenance, and provide additional crash reports/statistics to agencies as needed.
Finally, I am a Core Member on the implementation of ESRI Roads and Highways here at NDOT, which was completed in May of 2018. The Roads and Highways project took over 80 of NDOT’s datasets and applied a spatial location to match NDOT’s one road network.
