Director of the Office of Safety Advocacy
Nicholas Worrell is the Director of the Office of Safety Advocacy for the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). Among other duties, Mr. Worrell coordinates the development of the agency’s Most Wanted List of safety improvements and promotes the adoption of safety recommendations issued to state governments. In addition, Mr. Worrell addresses industry, local government, youth safety leaders, educators, and international audiences about the NTSB’s safety investigations and resulting recommendations. For several years Mr. Worrell addressed the International Road Federation’s Caribbean Regional Congress, and he offered a U.S. perspective at the U.K.’s National Safer Roads Partnerships Conference in 2017.
Mr. Worrell’s more than 23 years of government service began in the U.S. Marine Corps, and continued at the NTSB, where he has worked as a public affairs officer and a safety advocate. He has served as the director of advocacy since 2015, working closely with the Director of Safety Recommendations and Communications and with NTSB Chairman Robert Sumwalt. He recently worked with Chairman Sumwalt to develop and implement NTSB Core Values throughout the agency.
Mr. Worrell has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from The Masters College, a Master of Arts degree in Public Policy/Public Administration from Howard University and a Master of Arts degree in Strategic Public Relation from The George Washington University.
